TOWANDA — Reese Sluyter ran for two scores and threw for another to lead Towanda to a 42-14 win over Sayre here Friday night in NTL football action at the Endless Mountains Sports Complex.
Tanner Vanderpool kicked off the scoring with a 6-yard TD run just 2 1/2 minutes into the game to give Towanda a quick 6-0 lead.
Sluyter scored on a 13-yard run with 2:57 remaining in the opening stanza, then connected with Curtis Maynard on the conversion to make it 14-0.
Vanderpool added his second TD run of the game, scoring from 27 yards out midway through the second quarter to give the Black Knights a 21-0 lead.
Sluyter's 10-yard run with 2:35 left in the first half made it 28-0, and his 32-yard TD strike to Maynard with 3 seconds left gave the Black Knights a 35-0 lead heading into the halftime intermission.
Joey Montoya capped Towanda's scoring with a 25-yard TD run on the Knights' first possession of the second half to extend the lead to 42-0.
The Redskins avoided the shutout early in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard TD run by Hudson Malanoski. Declan Barry tacked on the conversion to close the gap to 42-8.
Sayre scored again with 14 seconds remaining on a 22-yard TD pass from Malanoski to Brayden Vorhis to provide the final margin.
Sluyter completed 4 of 6 passes for 74 yards and one TD, and ran for 69 yards and two TDs on 10 carries.
Vanderpool led Towanda with 81 yards and two TDs on five carries, and had one reception for 38 yards.
Tyrese Gamby had an interception for the Redskins.
Sayre, now 0-8, hosts Canton Saturday for Homecoming.
