ATHENS — Athens won the final two sets to pull out a hard-fought, four-set Senior Night win over Canton here Tuesday night in NTL volleyball action.
The Wildcats won the first set, 25-21, but the Warriors bounced back to even the match, 25-20. Athens closed out the match with wins of 25-23 and 25-17.
"What an awesome effort by the girls tonight," said Athens coach Heather Darrow. "They found a way to make it happen."
Junior Meg Wiles led Athens with 32 setter assists and 22 digs, while sophomore Ellie Mosher registered 18 kills and 19 digs, and sophomore Lainey Vosburgh had two aces, 18 digs, and 10 serve-receptions.
Sophomore Kendall Galasso had four kills, 12 digs and four aces in the win, while junior Hannah Parrish had two aces, 16 digs, and two kills, while freshman Kayla Forbes had three aces, 26 digs, and 24 serve-receptions.
Senior Regan McDaniel added 10 kills and 5 digs for the Wildcats, and junior Emma Mallare added five kills.
The Wildcats had just one senior to honor on Senior Night in McDaniel.
"Regan has been a great leader and one of the captains on the team," said Darrow. "We are so proud of her."
Athens, now 4-10, returns to action Thursday at Cowanesque Valley.
