NEWARK VALLEY — Sophomore Taylor Sindoni scored early in the fourth quarter to lift Tioga to a 1-0 season-ending win over Newark Valley here Thursday afternoon in Section IV field hockey action.
"It was our last game and we went in with the mindset of leaving it all on the field," said Tioga coach Aubrey Worthing.
"We were able to be find success because of using our dodges, being versatile, spreading out the field and using our teammates for support.
"Neither team let up and it was a very evenly-matched game," added Worthing.
After three scoreless quarters, Sindoni was able to hit the tin in the back of the cage about five minutes into the fourth quarter off a penalty corner.
Newark Valley had a 6-4 edge in shots-on-goal, and a 5-4 edge in penalty corners.
Vangie Decker had six saves in the cage for the Tigers, and Ashleen Callahan had three saves for the Cardinals.
Tioga wraps up the regular season at 2-14.
