THE VALLEY — PIAA boys golf, Section IV soccer, and District 4 cross country, as well as the end of the volleyball and girls swimming regular seasons, and a trio of football games, including the Rusty Rail game and a match-up of two of the best teams in New York State — Chenango Forks at Waverly — highlight the week's slate of action.
There are 15 events on the docket this week — with a chance of two more (Athens boys and girls soccer playoff games), including three each on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:
MONDAY (3)
• Athens junior Eli Hicks is in action at Day 1 of the PIAA, Class AAA boys golf championships.
• Tioga volleyball hits the road to take on unbeaten arch-rival Candor in the regular-season finale for both team.
• Waverly hosts Seton Catholic on the volleyball hardwoods.
TUESDAY (2)
• Athens junior Eli Hicks is in action at Day 2 of the PIAA, Class AAA boys golf championships.
• Athens hosts resurgent Sayre in the renewal of a Valley volleyball rivalry.
WEDNESDAY (3)
• The Tioga girls host Marathon in the opening round of the Section IV, Class C soccer playoffs.
• Waverly hosts STAC Central volleyball rival Chenango Valley I the season-finale for both teams.
• Waverly and Owego swim in a rare tri-meet at Greene.
THURSDAY (3)
• Athens and Sayre will run at the District 4 Cross Country Championships at Bloomsburg University.
FRIDAY (3)
• Athens hosts Sayre in the renewal of the Rusty Rail rivalry football game.
• Waverly, ranked fourth in Class B, takes on Class C's top-ranked Chenango Forks in a Section IV football battle.
• Tioga football hosts Greene-Oxford with a chance to clinch a share of the Section IV, Division VII title.
SATURDAY (1)
• Waverly will run at the STAC Cross Country Championships at U-E.
