Valley Sports Report
TIOGA JUNCTION, Pa. — As its done several times this season, Athens won the first set only to drop a 3-1 decision, this time to Williamson here Wednesday night in the NTL volleyball regular-season finale.

The Wildcats prevailed, 25-18, in the first set, but the Warriors answered with wins of 25-18 and 25-17, then fought off a valiant Athens effort in the fourth set to post a 27-25 victory.

"We had a great start in typical Wildcat fashion and then our dang starter broke," said Athens coach Heather Darrow. "In sets two, three and four, we found ourselves in deficits immediately.

"In set four, we had growth as we found out the little things we have to take care of every point in order to take sets.

"We came up short in set four, but man the girls were relentless on defense," added Darrow.

Junior Hannah Parrish led Athens with 17 digs and four kills, while junior Meg Wiles had 32 setter assists and four aces, and freshman Kayla Forbes had three aces, 15 serve-receptions and 19 digs.

"Hannah Parrish had an incredible night keeping the ball alive," said Darrow.

Sophomore Lainey Vosburgh had two aces, six serve-receptions and eight digs for the Wildcats, while sophomore Ellie Mosher had 18 kills, six aces and nine digs, and junior Ella Raynor recorded six kills.

"Ella Raynor really stepped in with some fire tonight," noted Darrow.

Senior Regan McDaniel registered three kills and three blocks for Athens, and sophomore Kendall Galasso added two aces and two digs.

Athens wraps up the regular season at 7-11, and will likely play Shamokin Monday in the opening round of the District 4, Class 3A playoffs.
