EAST STROUDSBURG — Tioga grad Kali Bailey, a freshman on the Elmira College women's wrestling team, won her first two collegiate matches here Saturday at the East Stroudsburg Women's Open.
Bailey opened her day in the 131-pound bracket against fifth-seeded Ava Capogna of East Stroudsburg, who was the fifth seed. Bailey fell behind 4-0 in the first period, but scored a takedown and turned it into a fall at 2:20.
In the fourth of 8, Bailey scored six quick points to build a 6-0 lead over Pittsburgh-Johnstown's Danny Taranto, before scoring the fall at 39 seconds.
In the quarterfinals, Groton freshman Carmen Bishop, wrestling for the Crown City Wrestling Club, scored a 10-0 technical fall in 3:20 to knock Bailey into the consolation bracket.
In the consolation round-of-8, Bailey scored a quick takedown, but Alexandra Viera of Sacred Heart University countered with four quick points, then a fall at 1:48 to end Bailey's day.
Elmira College returns to action Nov. 12 at the Ithaca College Invite.
