THE VALLEY — Volleyball takes center stage in the Valley Wednesday with Athens and Sayre each hosting state playoff games, and Tioga opening the Section IV playoffs at home.

Athens won its first District 4 title in 20 years, while Sayre won the first D4 title in program history.

Class 3A Opening Round
Berwick (18-1) at Athens (9-11), 6 p.m.:
The Wildcats are coming off a sweep of Danville in the District 4 Championship match, while the Bulldogs beat Abington Heights in four sets in the District 2 title game.

Berwick is riding a 16-match win streak, while Athens has won six of its last seven matches.

The teams have two common opponents, with Berwick sweeping Dallas and beating Abington Heights in four sets, while Athens lost to both via sweeps.

Class A Opening Round
Mountain View (12-12) at Sayre (11-9), 7 p.m.: The Redskins are coming off a four-set win over Canton in the District 4 Championship match, while the Eagles swept MMI Preparatory School in the District 2 finals.

Mountain View is riding a four-match win streak, which comes on the heels of a five-match losing streak, while Sayre dropped its final three regular-season matches before winning two matches in the D4 playoffs.

The only common opponent this season is NEB, which Sayre swept twice, and Mountain View once.

Section IV Playoffs
Class C Quarterfinals
5-Unatego (10-4) at 4-Tioga (12-4), 5 p.m.:
The Tigers have been off since an Oct. 20 sweep of previously-unbeaten Candor, while the Spartans beat Harpursville-Afton Oct. 23.

The winner advances to semi-final pool play at the highest remaining seed, likely top-seed Lansing.
