Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — The falls season opens in earnest this week, but the main event is the final event of the fall season — Tioga football playing for a Class D state title at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse Friday afternoon.
There are 15 events on the docket this week, including six on Friday and four on Saturday.
The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:

• The Athens girls open the 2025-26 basketball season at Johnson City.
• The Sayre girls open the basketball season on the road at Newfield.
THURSDAY (3)
• Athens wrestles its second home dual of the week against Wellsboro.
• Tioga hosts IAC rival Candor on the lanes at the Valley Bowling Center.
• The Tioga girls open the 2025-26 season at Owego in the opening round of the Sibley Tournament.
FRIDAY (4)
• Tioga will play Tuckahoe in the N.Y. State Class D football championship game at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse.
• Waverly is in action at Day 1 of the Mark Stephens Duals Classic at Horseheads.
• The Sayre boys open the 2025-26 season at the Mifflinburg Tip-Off Tournament.
SATURDAY (6)
• Athens hosts its annual Jarvis Memorial Wrestling Tournament, with both boys and girls in action.
• Waverly is in action at Day 2 of the Mark Stephens Duals Classic at Horseheads.
• The Waverly girls square off with Ithaca at the Elmira College Tip-Off Classic.
• The Athens swim teams open the 2025-26 season at the Bloomsburg Invite.
