Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — The Athens and Sayre girls basketball teams open the 2025-26 season tonight on the road against non-league opponents.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Athens at Johnson City, 5:30 p.m. JV start: Athens is coming off a 15-8 season, including a loss to Jersey Shore in the District 4, Class 4A quarterfinals, while Johnson City was 19-4 and won the Section IV, Class A title.
Last year, Johnson City won at Athens, 44-23, in the season opener.
Sayre at Newfield, 6 p.m. (Varsity only): The Redskins are coming off a 2-20 season in 2024-25, while the Trojans finished at 4-15.
