Valley Sports ReportHORSEHEADS — Waverly opened the 2025-26 season with three convincing wins at Day 1 of the Mark Stephens Classic here Friday night at the Horseheads Middle School.
Eighth-grader Triton Floyd, juniors Matthias Welles, Joey Mack and Rhylee Stotler, and seniors Daltton Davis and Troy Beeman, who received three forfeits, were all 3-0 on the night.
Freshman Avery Bowman, who lost after bumping up to 126 pounds against Boliva-Richburg standout Presley McDowell in his opening match, won his next two at 118 to go 2-1 on the night.
Seventh-grader Mason Phillips, seniors Cooper Robinson and Hudson Sink, and juniors Parker Larson and Nico Rae also went 2-1.
Waverly will open action Saturday morning against Horseheads-2, then will face Middletown-2, Middletown, and West Genesee.
