MILL HALL, Pa. — Brookville jumped out to a quick lead, and pulled away for a 48-34 win over Athens here Friday night in the opening round of the Central Mountain Tip-Off Tournament.
The Raiders led 13-6 after the opening eight minutes, then used a 16-7 second-quarter run to take a 29-13 lead into the halftime intermission.
Brookville outscored Athens, 15-7, in the third quarter to stretch its advantage to 44-20 heading into the final eight minutes.
Sophomore Allison Kemp led Athens with 12 points, while junior McKenna Jarvis had 11 points and five rebounds, and senior Ava Hughes had four rebounds and three steals.
Junior Brielle Mayo had four steals and two assists for the Wildcats, while sophomore Alissa Vough grabbed four boards, and freshman Alex Mayo chipped in with three rebounds.
Samantha Whitling led Brookville with 26 points, including 18 in the first half, and Emma Northey added 15 points.
Athens will face the loser of the Central Mountain—Central Martinsburg game Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
