ATHENS — Athens crowned three champs — senior Hanna Rathbun, junior Joyce Clink, and freshman Skylynn Payne — and had two runners-up, and won the team title here Saturday at the annual Jarvis Memorial Girls Wrestling Tournament.
Sophomore Alyssa Rinebold and junior Abigail Wagner were runners-up, and freshmen Evelyn Cummings, Charlotte Rosh and Chelsey Renninger were all third-place finishers for the Wildcats, who amassed 150 points, well ahead of runner-up Selinsgrove, which had 124.5 points, and third-place Milton, which had 82 points.
Rathbun was 5-0 on the day — all first-period falls — to win the 136-pound bracket. Her quickest fall of the day was 33 seconds, her longest matches (1:33 and 1:37) both came against NEB's Mackenzie Clark — first in pool play and then in the championship match.
Clink was 4-0 — all first-period pins — to win the 124-pound weight class. She had pins in 29 and 37 seconds, as well as 60 and 68 seconds.
Payne, in her first varsity action, was 5-0, with four of her five pins coming in 32 seconds or less. Payne opened with a pin of Muncy's Piper Diehl in 1:21, then finished off the 190-pound bracket with pins of 11, 17, 32, and 19 seconds.
Rinebold was 3-1 to finish second in the 106-pound weight class. She scored pins in 1:17, 32 and 59 seconds, but lost the final bout in the round-robin format to Wellsboro's Jordan Rumsey, via first-period fall.
Wagner, a state qualifier last year, was 4-1 on the day to finish second in the 170-pound bracket. Wagner scored three falls in pool play.
Wagner beat Sayre's Mikyah Brown in an 11-3 major decision in the semifinals. Wagner matched up with returning state qualifier Isabella Gotschall of Jersey Shore in the finals and lost via a third-period fall.
Cummings was 2-1 to finish third in the 235-pound weight class. She scored a pair of falls for her wins, including a pin of eventual champ Sadie O'Dell of Muncy in 4:31.
Renninger was 3-2 to finish third in the 142-pound weight class. She recorded three falls, including a 12-second pin in her final match of the day.
