SAYRE — Blue Ridge got off to a quick start, and Sayre never recovered in a 74-43 loss here Saturday afternoon in non-league boys basketball action.
The Red Raiders jumped out to an 18-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, then outscored Sayre 21-14 in the second quarter to take a 39-18 lead into the halftime locker room.
Paxton Pingarelli led Blue Ridge's first-half efforts with 18 points, and Landon Bishop added 12 points on four 3-pointers.
Sophomore Riley Johnson led Sayre with 10 first-half points.
Junior Rommel Suba knocked down a 3-pointer and scored seven points in the third quarter for the Redskins, but the Red Raiders used a 21-11 advantage in the stanza to build its lead to 60-29 heading into the final eight minutes.
Johnson tossed in nine points, including a 3-pointer, and Blake Zingeser added a 3-pointer as the Redskins played the Red Raiders even in the fourth quarter.
Johnson led Sayre with a career-high 21 points and five rebounds, while Suba had 11 points, six boards and three steals, and junior Declan Barry added four points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Pingarelli led Blue Ridge with 28 points and Bishop added 18 on six 3-pointers.
Sayre, now 0-4, hosts Wellsboro Tuesday.
