SAYRE — Wellsboro used a second-quarter blitz to blow open a 1-point game on its way to a 50-19 win over Sayre here Tuesday night in NTL boys basketball action.
Senior Carter Bleiler canned a 3-pointer, and sophomore Riley Johnson and Dom Mezzatesta added buckets, but Wellsboro led 8-7 after the first eight minutes.
Luke Rothermel scored six points and Colin Fletcher canned a 3-pointer to fuel Wellsboro's 17-0 second-quarter blitz that extended its lead to 25-7 at the halftime break.
The Hornets extended the blitz in the third quarter with an 18-4 run to push the lead to 43-11 heading into the final eight minutes.
Junior Declan Barry led Sayre with six points and Johnson added four.
Rothermel led Wellsboro with 13 points.
Sayre, now 0-5, returns to action Thursday at Wyalusing.
