NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: ATHENS CRUISES TO 63-32 WIN OVER COWANESQUE VALLEY (2025-12-18)

WESTFIELD, Pa. — Athens pulled away steadily for three quarters, then blew the game wide-open late in a 63-32 romp over Cowanesque Valley here Thursday night NTL boys basketball action.

"It was another nice team win, everyone contributed," said Athens coach Jim Lister.

"It was also good to get our junior team captain Lucas Shultz back after a medical leave," he noted. 

"Now, it's time to get ready for Waverly," added Lister.

Senior Nick Grazul scored four points in the first quarter to help the Wildcats to an 11-8 after the opening eight minutes.

Athens opened it offensively in the second quarter with junior Lucas Schultz, who had seven points in the stanza, senior Eli Hobday and freshman Aidan Briggs each knocking down 3-pointers to spark a 22-13 run that put the wildcats up 33-21 at the intermission.

Schultz scored four more points in the third quarter, and junior Gage Marmor canned a 3-pointer as Athens added one point to its advantage and led 42-29 heading in the final eight minutes.

Schultz pumped in nine points in the fourth quarter, while Hobday and Marmor each connected from behind the 3-point arc in a game-closing 21-6 run.

Schultz, who made 9 of 14 shots from the field, led Athens with 20 points, and two blocked shots, while Marmor had eight points and three steals, Hobday had six points and two assists, and Briggs had six points and one blocked shot.

Grazul scored six points and dished out two assists in the win, while Dom Robbins scored five points, senior James Friend had four points, eight boards, two assists, and two blocked shots, senior Adam Kemp had four points, three rebounds and three steals, senior Talon Baglini grabbed four rebounds, and junior Kam Wheeler had three boards and two assists.

Levi Stahli led CV with 11 points.

Athens, now 3-2, returns to action Saturday at Waverly in a 5:15 p.m. start.
