NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: OFFENSIVE WOES IN SECOND HALF DOOM ATHENS IN 34-23 LOSS TO TOWANDA (12 PHOTOS) (2025-12-19)

TOWANDA — Athens led at the half, but went stone cold in the second half in a 34-23 loss to Towanda here Friday night in NTL Large School girls basketball action.

The Wildcats only scored six points in the first quarter, but held the Black Knights scoreless in the opening eight minutes.

Junior McKenna Jarvis scored four points in the second quarter, and sophomore Alissa Vough knocked down a 3-pointer. Athens was 5-for-6 from the free-throw line, but Towanda sliced one point off the lead, and trailed 16-11 at the halftime break.

Athens made just one field goal (by senior Ava Hughes) and was 1-for-5 from the free-throw line in the third quarter, and Towanda used an 18-3 run to take a 29-19 lead into the final eight minutes.

Vough scored Athens' only four points in the fourth quarter as the Athens offense continued to struggle.

Vough led Athens with seven points, three rebounds and three steals, while Jarvis had six points, five rebounds, two steals, and two assists, Hughes added five points, and sophomore Allison Kemp hauled down seven rebounds.

Athens, now 2-4, returns to action next Saturday against Tioga in the Holiday Tournament at Athens.
