NTL WRESTLING: BARRETT ATHENS' LONE PLACE-FINISHER AT RUGGED PANTHER VALLEY CLASSIC (2025-12-20)

CRESSON, Pa. — Sophomore Treyton Barrett was Athens' lone place-winner here Saturday in boys wrestling action at the rugged Panther Valley Classic here on the campus of Mount Aloysius College.

Barrett finished 4-3 on the day to place eighth in 145-pound weight class.

Barrett built a 12-2 lead over Quaker Valley's Harper Sipes in the round-of-32 before finishing him off with a fall at 3:14.

After losing via fall in the round-of-16, Barrett bounced back with three straight wins. He started his consolation-bracket run by hitting a takedown midway through the third period in a 4-3 win over McGuffey's Michael Cosato.

In his next match, Barrett scored a 15-5 major decision over Wentworth's Bryce Crowson. He finished off his run with a 10-5 win over Ridgway's Nathan Seeger in the blood round.

Barrett lost his next two matches — via tech fall and pin — to finish eighth.

Junior Connor Davidson posted a 4-2 record at 189 pounds. Davidson opened with a pin of Glendale's Lawson Richards in 1:20, then dominated Conemaugh Township's Landon Huffman in a 16-1 technical fall in the round-of-32.

Davidson was knocked into the consolation bracket by an 18-1 first-period technical fall loss to Tyrone's Kyle Scott.

He bounced back with a 16-1 technical fall in 4:06 over Northern York's Jadon Miner, then decked Hollidaysburg's Keegan Hewitt in 26 seconds in the consolation bracket first round-of-8.

Davidson was eliminated as the result of a first-period DQ against Berlin's Carter Durst.

Junior Lucas Persun was 3-2 in the 139-pound bracket. He began his day with a wild, 11-9, decision over Tyrone Christian Academy's Jacob Evans in the opening round. Persun led 6-1 as the result of two takedowns after the first period, and 10-4 late in the second period.

In the round-of-32, Persun forged a 16-1 technical fall of Hollidaysburg's Caleb Derrick in 3:12. He scored a six-point move early in the first period, then hit a seven-point move in the first 10 seconds of the second period.

Persun lost via second-period fall to Mifflinburg's Ben Straub in the round-of-16, but bounced back to top Westmont's Mikey Zahurak in a 4-1 decision. Persun was eliminated by an 8-0 major decision at the hands of Derry Area's Camden Olsen.

Junior Brendan Cooke was 3-2 in the 189-pound weight class.

Cooke opened the day with a pin of Mount Union's Henry Petron in 2:40 in the round-of-32, but dropped a heard-fought, 6-5, decision to Berlin's Carter Durst in the round-of-16.

Cooke scored a 6-3 decision over North Star's Kasey Yoder in his first wrestleback match, then followed it up with a pin of Ridgway's Marcus Greg in 2:51.

Cook was eliminated by a 13-1 major decision loss to Central Cambria's Jeremy Hajzus.

Freshman Chace VanDyke was 3-2 in the 107-pound bracket.

VanDyke opened his day with a 19-2 technical fall of Troy's Garrett Parks in 2:22, but lost in the round-of-16 via second-period fall to Canton's Levi Vermilya.

In his first wrestleback match, VanDyke scored a seven-point move later in the first quarter, and another one midway through the second to build his lead to 14-1. He finished off the match via fall at 4:17.

VanDyke decked Spring Grove's Elias Rose in 41 seconds, to advance to the second round-of-8 in the consolation bracket, where he lost via second-period fall to Hollidaysburg's Connor Sidney.

Senior Karson Sipley was 2-2 in the 172-pound weight class.

Sipley scored a 29-second pin over Juanita's Cale Fike in the round-of-32, but lost via technical fall in his next bout.

Sipley opened his consolation bracket action with a 15-0 technical fall of Hickory's Marco Carter in 2:19, but was eliminated in his next bout via second-period fall.

Senior Brenden Comstock was 1-2 in the 285-pound bracket. His lone win was a pin of South Williamsport's Eli Harvey in 2:20 in the first round of wrestlebacks.

Freshman Josh Saxon was 0-2 at 107 pounds, and senior Ryan Howard was 0-2 at 160 pounds.

Athens returns to action Jan. 6 when it hosts Canton.
