STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY RIDES STRONG FIRST HALF TO 65-53 WIN OVER WYALUSING (24 PHOTOS) (2025-12-22)

WAVERLY — Waverly built a 14-point advantage at halftime on its way to a 65-53 non-league win over Wyalusing here Monday night in non-league girls basketball action.

Senior Brilynn Belles knocked down a 3-pointer and scored five points in the first quarter, and junior Hannah Carpenter added an old-fashion three-point play to help Waverly to a 14-9 lead after the opening eight minutes.

Junior Ryleigh Judson canned a pair 3-pointers and scored 10 points in the second quarter, and senior Kaitlyn Sutton added six points to fuel Waverly's 18-9 run that pushed the halftime lead to 32-18.

The Rams offense found its stride in the third quarter and closed the gap to six points at one point but the Wolverines had six different players put their names in the scorebook in the stanza and pushed the lead back to eight, at 48-40, entering the final eight minutes.

The four quarter was a steady process to the free-throw line for the Wolverines, who sealed the win by making 13 of 16 from the charity stripe.

Judson was 6-for-6 from the line in the fourth quarter, whale Sutton was 5-for-6.

Judson led Waverly with 22 points, while Sutton scored 16  points, Belles and Carpenter had seven points, and sophomore Kendall Rockwell added six points.

Jenna Morningstar led Wyalusing with 16 points, while Alysha Botts scored 13 points, and Emily Johns added 12 points.

Waverly, now 5-2, returns to action Saturday against Bishop O'Hara at the Palmer Tournament.
