THE VALLEY — The Waverly girls basketball team opens play in the annual Josh Palmer Tournament today, while the Waverly girls wrestling team is at Midlakes High School for a tournament.

Cardinal O'Hara (3-5) vs. Waverly (5-2), 3:15 p.m.: Waverly takes a major step up in competition this weekend in the National Division of the Palmer Tournament, opening today with Cardinal O'Hara in the quarterfinals.
The Wolverines topped Wyalusing, 65-53, on Monday, while the Tonawanda-based Hawks are coming off a 39-31 loss to Denver's George Washington High School.

Waverly at Frosty Freestyle Festival, 10 a.m. @ Midlakes H.S.: The Wolverines are on of 24 teams competing at the Frosty Freestyle, including Horseheads, Corning, and Elmira from Section IV, and a host of teams from Sections V and VI.
