CLIFTON SPRINGS, N.Y. — Waverly senior Emma Vanderhoof won a weight class title and three of her teammates reached the podium here Saturday at the second annual Frosty Freestyle Festival at Midlakes High School.
Senior Elona Holmes placed fifth for the Wolverines, while junior Abi Reedy and 7th-grader Amelia Wright each placed sixth.
The Wolverines placed ninth in the 36-team field with 85 points, well off the pace of team champ Niagara-Wheatfield, which had 169 points, and runner-up Fulton, which tallied 162.5 points. Windsor was the top Section IV finisher, placing seventh with 108.5 points.
Vanderhoof went 5-0 on the day to claim the 126-pound title.
Vanderhoof, the 2-seed, decked Canandaigua Academy's Piper Jones in 17 seconds in the opening round, then scored a 16-6 technical fall of Chatauqua Lake's Aurora Maring in 3:35.
In the quarterfinals, Vanderhoof built a 10-4 lead before pinning Niagara-Wheatfield's Cali Ponzi in 1:54 to advance to the semifinals, while she led Fulton's Isabella Salotto, 12-10, before scoring a fall at 1:56.
In the finals, Vanderhoof scored an 11-0 technical fall win over Niagara-Wheatfield's Jewel Allen in 1:36.
Holmes was 4-1 to finish fifth in the 165-pound bracket.
She opened with a pin of Chatauqua Lake's Liberty Marina in 49 seconds, then lost via first-period fall to Clarence's Michaela Thomas.
Holmes bounced back in the consolation quarterfinals with a pin of Cicero-North Syracuse's Kaitlynn Landry in 40 seconds, and a ping of Midlakes' Ashley Orozco in 58 seconds in the consi semis.
In the fifth-place match, Holmes pinned teammate Abi Reedy in 1:44.
Reedy went 3-2 to place sixth at 165 pounds. She opened with a 10-0 technical fall of Midlakes' Sara Roy, then lost via first-period technical fall to Red Creek's Rose Southwick.
Reedy bounced back with a pair of quick pins, decking Phoenix's Juliet Hardenburg in 26 seconds, and Webster's Isabella Gonzalez in 32 seconds in the consolation semifinals.
Wright was 3-2 to finish sixth in the 138-pound bracket. She opened with a pin of Chatauqua Lake's NaZari Covington in 1:11, then lost via first-period fall to Fulton's Savannah Emmons.
Wright then scored falls over teammate Natasha Lane in 1:04, and Keshequa-Fillmore's Navaeh Gordon-Ewing in 1:44 in the consolation semifinals.
In the the fifth-place match, she lost via fall to Canandaigua Academy's Ryleigh Frarey in 2:13.
Freshman Gianna Zieniuk was 2-2 in the 152-pound bracket.
Zieniuk opened with a 46-second fall over Cicero-North Syracuse's Addy Bombard, then lost via first-period technical fall to Canandaigua Academy's Jaliyah Simmons.
Zieniuk bounced back with a 50-second pin of Niagara-Wheatfield's Aaliyah Nails, but lost via tech fall to Emma Source of Dundee-Bradford-Penn Yan to end her day.
Eighth-grader Jillianna Presher was 2-2 in the 145-pound bracket.
In her first match, Presher was locked in an 8-8 battle with Webster's Mallory Denton when she was pinned at 4:25.
She bounced back to pin Cicero-North Syracuse's Aliyaha Ibrahim in 1:41, and Fulton's Eliza Mucica in 58 seconds before falling to Camden's Ellie Miller in 2:46 to end her day.
Freshman Natasha Lane was 2-2 in the 138-pound bracket.
Lane was trailing Candandaigua Academy's Ryleigh Frarey, 13-8, when she lost via fall in 3:11 in the opening round.
She bounced back with pins of Niagara-Wheatfield's Kyleigh Williams in 18 seconds, and East Rochester's Lilyana Benjamin in 1:53, before falling to Wright.
Seventh-grader Aniyah Rought was 1-2 in the 94-pound brackets with her lone win a 67-second fall over Irondequoit's London Siwicki.
Sophomore Faith Hyjek was 0-2 at 132 pounds, 8th-grader Gabbi Sinsabaugh was 0-2 at 126 pounds, and freshman Gianna Rylott was 0-2 at 100 pounds.
Waverly returns to action Jan. 9 at the Southern Tier Memorial.
