KINGSLEY, Pa. — Mountain View jumped out to an early lead and pulled away for a 67-49 win over Sayre here Tuesday afternoon in non-league boys basketball win.
"We played very solid ball tonight," said Sayre coach Paul Blythe. "In spurts, we saw great success with defensive stops and offensive points. We just need to continue to work hard and grow.
"Pressure is a privilege and these boys feel the pressure of being successful and winning again," he noted. "They will live up to that pressure soon.
"We have one goal and that's continuing to grow each and every night, and tonight we took big steps in obtaining that goal," added Blythe.
The Eagles led 15-8 after the first quarter, then used a 22-14 second-quarter run to take a 37-22 lead into the halftime intermission.
Mountain View's offense kept clicking in the third quarter with a 24-17 advantage that pushed the lead to 61-39 heading into the final eight minutes.
Sophomore Riley Johnson led Sayre with 20 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and 13 rebounds.
"Riley Johnson has been a quiet force for us," said Blythe. "It doesn’t seem like he’s pouring it on, but then you see 20 points and 13 rebounds ... and you see he’s going to be a successful ball player for us."
Junior Rommel Suba had 18 points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals for the Redskins, while senior Carter Bleiler added five points, including one 3-pointer, five boards, and one blocked shot, junior Declan Barry had seven rebounds, two assists and two steals, and sophomore Riley McGaughey and senior Dom Mezzatesta each grabbed three rebounds.
Sayre returns to action Monday at Sullivan County.
