H.S. GIRLS WRESTLING: WAVERLY, TIOGA, ELMIRA ALL GO 1-1 IN DOUBLE-DUAL (24 PHOTOS) (2026-01-07)

WAVERLY — It doesn't happen often, but Elmira, Tioga, and Waverly met in a girls wrestling double-dual here Wednesday night and all three teams came away with a 1-1 record.

Elmira topped Tioga, 35-28, thanks to four forfeits and an injury default, while Waverly edged Elmira, 33-31, and Tioga bested Waverly, 34-25.

Elmira 35, Tioga 28

The Tigers had a 6-2 advantage on the mat, but the Express picked up 25 points via four forfeits and an injury default in a 35-28 win over Tioga.

Elmira took a quick 15-0 lead with Tioga forfeits at 94, 100, and 107 pounds, but freshman Grace Howey put the Tigers on the board with a pin at 114 pounds, and senior RaeAnne Feeko scored a 10-0 technical fall at 2:49 to close the gap to 15-9.

After picking up five more points via an injury default at 126 pounds, Elmira's Atlantis Cherry scored a pin fall at 132 points to extend the lead to 25-9.

Tioga closed the gap to 25-23 with falls by sophomore Cora Szymanski in 2:14 at 138 pounds, and junior Marcy Moniz in 44 seconds at 152 pounds, sandwiched around an 11-0 technical fall in 47 seconds by junior Amelia Toomey at 145 pounds.

After a Tioga forfeit at  165 gave the Express a 30-23 lead, junior Kyah Nelson registered a 30-second fall to close the gap to 30-28.

Elmira's Ayvah Coker secured the win for the Express at 235 pounds with a fall.

Waverly 33, Elmira 31

The Express got off to a fast started against Waverly, too, but the Wolverines rallied to pull out a 33-31 win.

Waverly forfeits at 94 and 114 pounds, sandwiched around pins by Elmira's Amber Mahmoud at 100 pounds, and Alea Hartford at 107 pounds gave the Express an early 20-0 lead.

Waverly answered with three straight wins to close the gap to 21-13.

Junior Abby Sickler started the Wolverine run at 120 pounds with a pin in 1:24.

Eighth-grader Gabbi Sinsabaugh followed with a 17-6 technical fall win in 3:38 at 126 pounds, and senior Emma Vanderhoof needed just 25 seconds to forge a 10-0 technical fall.

Elmira got back on track with a pin from Atlantis Cherry at 138 pounds to make it 26-13, but pins by 7th-grader Amelia Wright in 33 seconds at 145 pounds, and 8th-grader Jillian Presher in 4:22 at 152 pounds to close the gap to 26-23.

A forfeit to Gianna Zieniuk at 165 pounds gave Waverly a 28-26 lead, and senior Elona Holmes' 66-second fall at 185 pounds gave the Wolverines an insurmountable 33-26 lead with one match remaining.

Elmira received a forfeit at 235 to provide the final margin.

Tioga 34, Waverly 25

Waverly controlled the match early, but Tioga won five of the last six weight classes to rally for a 34-25 win.

With no match at 94 pounds, Waverly took a quick 10-0 lead with forfeits to 7th-grader Aniyah Rought and senior Sydney Rosenbloom at 107 and 114 pounds, respectively.

Senior Mia Hall put the Tigers on the board at 114 pounds with a fall in 1:27 to close the gap to 10-5.

The teams exchanged falls over the next three weight classes, with Waverly junior Abby Sickler scoring a fall in 1:49 at 120 pounds, and Waverly senior Emma Vanderhoof needing just 59 seconds at 132 pounds, sandwiched around a pin by Tioga senior RaeAnne Feeko in 29 seconds at 126 pounds.

After the exchange, Waverly led 20-10.

Tioga quickly tied the match up at 20-20 with consecutive pins by sophomore Cora Szymanski (47 seconds at 138 pounds) and junior Amelia Toomey (36 seconds at 145 pounds).

Junior Marcy Moniz gave the Tigers a brief 24-20 lead with a 10-0 technical fall in 3:22 at 152 pounds, but a forfeit to Gianna Zieniuk at 165 pounds put the Wolverines back on top at 25-24.

Tioga regained the lead at 185 pounds when junior Kyah Nelson scored a 75-second fall to make it 29-25.

The Tigers sealed the win with a forfeit to freshman Emily Moniz at 235 pounds.
