WAVERLY — Waverly used pressure defense and balanced scoring to forge a 57-30 win over Chenango Forks here Friday night in STAC Central Division boys basketball action.
"I’m very proud of my entire team," said Waverly coach Lou Judson. "We continue to play great defense and work relentlessly even when we struggle to consistently score offensively.
"Throughout the entire game, our defensive pressure wore a Chenango Forks down, and Forks is a team that has played with some of the best teams in our class.
"We still have a lot to improve on, but this team has a lot of potential and I really enjoy the effort they show every time they step on the court," added Judson. "We continue to improve but we know we need to be better when we face the better competition in our section."
Sophomore Jack Pipher scored five points, including a 3-pointer, in the first quarter, while senior Porter Daddona added four points, and junior Ben Shaw added a 3-pointer to fuel a game-opening 16-3 run for the Wolverines.

Hogan Shaw, who had just two points through the first three quarter, pumped in nine points, including a 3-pointer, in the fourth quarter, and freshman Braiden Judson added four points as the Wolverines iced the game with an 18-6 run.
Shaw led Waverly with 11 points, three rebounds, four assists, and one blocked shot, while Daddona had nine points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots, and Pipher had eight points, 10 rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot.
