CANDOR — Candor built an nine-point cushion at the half, then blew the game wide-open in the third quarter on its way to an 82-45 win over Tioga here Tuesday night in IAC South Small School boys basketball action.
Juniors Jackson Bombard and Gavin Kithcart combined for 10 points in the first quarter, and sophomore Carter Stoughton knocked down a 3-pointer, but, led by Jakobe Foster's seven points, Candor led 18-13 after the opening eight minutes.
Foster scored seven more points in the second quarter to offset 3-pointers by Stoughton and senior James miller as the Coyotes used a 14-10 advantage in the stanza to up its advantage to 32-23 at the halftime intermission.
Donald Makie pumped in 12 points in the third quarter Coyotes, while Ryan Huizinga had eight points, and Ben Sheridan added seven markers to fuel a 36-8 blitz that put Candor up 68-31 heading into the final eight minutes.
Kithcart and Stoughton combined for 13 of Tioga's 14 points in the final stanza, but the Coyotes (Matthew Smith, Kellen Williamson and James Pritchard) knocked down a trio of 3-pointers to play the Tigers even.
Kithcart led Tioga with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Stoughton had a career-high 12 points, including three 3-pointers, and Bombard had eight points, four rebounds and three assists.
Miller added six points and five rebounds for the Tigers, and senior Dominic Palmer chipped in with four points and five boards.
Foster and Makie led Candor with 18 points apiece, and Smith added 13 points.
Tioga, now 4-4, hosts Southern Cayuga Friday night.
