NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: CANTON RALLIES PAST ATHENS, 31-25 (11 PHOTOS) (2026-01-20)

ATHENS — Canton closed the game strong, and rallied for a 31-25 win over Athens here Tuesday night in NTL girls basketball action.

The first quarter was a defensive struggle and the Warriors led 5-4 after the opening eight minutes.

Freshman Alexis Mayo scored seven points in the second quarter, including a late 3-pointer as the Wildcats used a 13-9 spurt to take a 17-14 lead into the halftime locker room.

The defenses took over again in the third quarter, and Canton trimmed a point of its defense. Athens led 22-20 heading into the final eight minutes.

The Wildcats were held without a field goal in the fourth quarter, and mad just 3 of 8 attempts from the free-throw line, while Stella Rockwell, who hit an early 3-pointer, and Lydia Rope each scored four points for the Warriors, who were 2-for-8 from the charity stripe in the stanza.

Mayo led Athens with 11 points, three rebounds and three steals, while junior McKenna Jarvis had seven points and six rebounds, sophomore Alissa Vough added four rebounds and four steals, and Bilikula Wennie chipped in with two rebounds and two steals.

Cailyn VanNoy led Canton with 12 points.

Athens, now 6-8, returns to action Thursday at Northeast Bradford.

JV: Athens 51, Canton 18: Alex Mayo led Athens with 25 points, and Bilikula Wennie added 13 points.
