IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: BIG THIRD QUARTER PROPELS MARATHON TO 50-39 WIN OVER TIOGA (2026-01-23)

TIOGA CENTER — Marathon used a big third quarter to open up a double-digit lead here Friday night in a 50-39 win over Tioga in IAC boys basketball crossover action.

Junior Jackson Bombard scored six points in the first quarter to help the Tigers to an 8-6 lead after the opening eight minutes.

Junior Gavin Kithcart scored seven points in the second quarter for Tioga, but the Olympians used a 13-10 advantage to take a 19-18 lead into the halftime locker room.

Marathon outscored Tioga, 24-12, in the third quarter to extend its lead to 43-30 heading into the final eight minutes.

Kithcart scored five more points in the fourth quarter, but Tioga was only able to close the gap by two points with a 9-7 spurt.

Kithcart led Tioga with 19 points, 15 rebounds and two assists, while Bombard had nine points, four rebounds, and four assists, senior James Miller added five points, six boards and two assists, and senior Dominic Palmer grabbed three boards.

Tioga, now 6-6, returns to action at Candor.
