MARATHON — Marathon used a third-quarter run to take control in a 44-35 win over Tioga here Friday night in IAC Small School crossover girls basketball action.
Marathon led 8-4 after the first quarter, but Tioga, led by five points from Irie Lynch and four from Kaylah Nelson, closed gap to two points, at 19-17, with a 13-11 spurt.
The Olympians outscored the Tigers 18-7 in the third quarter to take a 37-24 lead into the final eight minutes.
Lynch scored eight points in the fourth quarter, and Nelson knocked down a 3-pointer, but Tioga only chipped four points of its deficit with an 11-7 spurt in the final eight minutes.
Lynch led Tioga with a career-high 20 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and two steals, while Nelson scored seven points, grabbed seven rebounds, and notched three steals, Lydiah Decker added four points, three rebounds, and two steals, and Kate Kithcart hauled down four boards.
Tioga returns to action Tuesday at Candor.
