SAYRE — Newfield scored the first 22 points of the game, and cruised to a 36-16 win over Sayre here Saturday afternoon in non-league girls basketball action.
The Trojans canned four 3-pointers in the first quarter on their way to a 22-0 lead after the first eight minutes. They only made five field goals the remainder of the game.
The Redskins settled in after the first quarter and outscored Newfield 6-4 in the second quarter, thanks to four points from sophomore McKenna Parrish, to close the gap to 26-6 at the half.
Sayre's offense dried up again in the third quarter and Newfield used a 7-0 spurt to extend its lead to 33-6 heading into the final eight minutes.
Senior Rylee Lantz scored six points in the fourth quarter to fuel a game-closing 10-3 run for the Redskins.
Lantz led Sayre with eight points, 10 rebounds, five steals, and one blocked shot, and Parrish added four points, four rebounds, and three steals.
Sophomore Brooklyn Robert had four rebounds and four steals for the Redskins, while freshman Allia Bennett hauled down six rebounds and blocked one shot, and sophomore Emily Strickland grabbed four boards.
Sayre returns to action Tuesday at Athens.
