Valley Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER — Tioga picked up wins over Groton and Newark Valley, and salvaged a tie with SVEC in girls wrestling action here Wednesday night to close the regular season.
The Tigers finish the season at 4-2-1.
Tioga 30, Groton 24
Groton won three of the five contested weight classes, but Tioga had a 12-point advantage in forfeits to pull out a 30-24 win over Groton.
Junior Marcy Moniz scored a 36-second fall at 165 pounds, and junior Kyah Nelson won via fall in 45 seconds at 185 pounds for Tioga's only wins on the mat.
Senior Mia Hall (114 pounds), sophomore Vida Rossi (120), and juniors Cora Szymanski (145) and Amelia Toomey (152) received forfeits for the Tigers.
Tioga 35, Newark Valley 20
Tioga won five of the seven contested weight class — all by fall — in a 35-20 win over Newark Valley.
Toomey scored the fastest fall of the night, needing just 16 seconds in her 145-pound bout, while Hall also scored a sub-60 second pin, decking her opponent in 49 seconds at 114 pounds.
Senior Sophia Haney (1:51 at 132), while Rossi (2:21 at 120) and Szymanski (2:22 at 138) also registered falls for the Tigers.
Nelson (185) and freshman Emily Moniz (235) each received forfeits for Tioga.
Tioga 15, SVEC 15
There were more empty weight classes (seven) than bouts and forfeits combined in Tioga and SVEC's 15-15 draw.
Szymanski scored a 61-second fall for Tioga's only win on the mat, while Katelynn VanEtten registered a fall at 235 pounds for SVEC's only win.
Tioga received forfeits at 152 pounds (Marcy Moniz) and 185 pounds (Nelson), while SVEC received forfeits at 107 (Elizabeth Kunte) and 120 (Tayah Beach).
