NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: TOWANDA OVERCOMES ATHENS' FAST START IN 48-37 WIN (2026-01-29)

Valley Sports Report
ATHENS — Athens jumped out to an early lead, but Towanda rallied for a 48-37 win here Thursday night in NTL Large School Division girls basketball action.

Junior McKenna Jarvis scored seven points in the first quarter, including a late 3-pointer, to help the Wildcats to a 13-7 lead after the opening stanza.

The Black Knights put the brakes on the Athens offense, however, and used a 12-4 run in the second quarter to take a 19-17 lead into the halftime locker room.

Towanda picked up the pace in the third quarter and used a 17-10 advantage in the stanza to take a 36-27 lead into the final eight minutes.

The Black Knights made enough free throws down the stretch  — 5 of 10 — to seal the win.

Jarvis led Athens with 20 points, four rebounds, and four steals, while senior Ava Hughes had five points, seven rebounds, and two steals, and sophomore Alissa Vough grabbed eight boards and had three steals.

Freshman Alexis Mayo had four points and four boards for the Wildcats, while junior Megan Morgan added six rebounds and two steals, and junior Brielle Mayo chipped in with four points.
