TIOGA CENTER — Tioga dug itself an early hole and never recovered in a 52-35 loss to Newfield here Thursday night in IAC Small School girls basketball action.
The Trojans jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the first eight minutes.
Irie Lynch canned a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points, and Kate Kithcart added four points as Tioga outscored Newfield, 12-11, in the second quarter to close the gap to 27-18 at the half.
Newfield used a 12-6 third-quarter run to extend its advantage to 39-24 heading into the final eight minutes.
Lynch scored four points in the fourth quarter, and Kaylah Nelson added a 3-pointer for the Tigers, but Newfield closed the game with a 13-11 advantage in the final stanza to seal the win.
Lynch led Tioga with 16 points, five rebounds and two assists, and Kithcart had eight points and six rebounds.
Adrienne Delmage had seven points and four rebounds for the Tigers, while Lydiah Decker added seven boards and one blocked shot, and Nelson chipped in with four points and six rebounds.
Tioga returns to action Friday when it hosts O-M.
