STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: BIG THIRD QUARTER PROPELS ONEONTA TO 61-51 WIN OVER WAVERLY (2026-02-03)

ONEONTA — Oneonta blew open a close game with a big third quarter on its way to a 61-51 wi over Waverly here Tuesday night in STAC girls basketball crossover action.

The Yellowjackets led 13-10 after the first quarter, then Kylie Carr scored 11 points in the second quarter as Oneonta used a 15-10 spurt to up its advantage to 28-20 heading into the halftime locker room.

Sophomore Ryleigh Judson scored seven points in the first quarter, and senior Brilynn Belles knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter to help the Wolverines stay close.

Oneonta had six different players put their name in the third quarter to fuel a 23-9 blitz that extended the lead to 51-29 heading into the final eight minutes.

Judson scored seven more points in the fourth quarter, while senior Kaitlyn Sutton added five points, and sophomores Macie Wheeler and Kendall Rockwell each added four points in game-closing 22-10 run for the Wolverines.

Judson led Waverly with 19 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, three rebounds and two assists, while Sutton had eight points, five rebounds, and two assists, and Belles scored eight points.

Sophomore Kaylin Twedt had six points, six boards and two assists for the Wolverines, while Wheeler had four points and two assists, Rockwell added four points, and sophomore Lauryn Welles grabbed three boards.

Carr led Oneonta with 21 points, and Jenevie Gallusser added 16 points, including four 3-pointers.

Waverly, now 8-9, returns to action Friday at Chenango Forks.
