STAC BOYS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY TAKES DOWN CHENANGO FORKS, 60-45 (2026-02-07)

BINGHAMTON — Waverly survived an early run, and took a lead into halftime, then put the game away in the fourth quarter of a 60-45 win over Chenango Forks here Saturday afternoon in STAC Central Division boys basketball action.

"You wonder how your team will respond with the tough week and in a close game," said Waverly coach Lou Judson.

"Early on I felt we took Forks best shot and we kept our composure and continued to play hard and make plays," he added.

Judson was especially pleased with the play of his reserves.

"Down a key starter, I was very pleased with the guys who came in off the bench, especially senior Carter Davies," he said. "He came in and made some big plays for us. 

"What makes a good high school basketball team is the guys who buy into their roles," Judson noted. "I’m proud of the guys who don’t always get the spotlight but continue to work hard and step up when their number is called."

Forks led 14-11 after the opening stanza, but senior Porter Daddona knocked down a 3-pointer and scored seven points in the second quarter, while senior Carter Davies and freshman Braiden Judson each scored four points, and junior Bryce LaForest canned a 3-pointer to fuel an 18-9 run to give the Wolverines a 29-23 lead heading into the halftime intermission.

Senior Hogan Shaw drained a 3-pointer and scored five points in the third quarter, and Davies and Judson each scored four points , but Forks kept pace and Waverly led 44-38 heading into the final eight minutes.

Six Wolverines put their names in the scoring column in the fourth quarter, including Hogan Shaw, who knocked down a 3-pointer and scored five points in a game-ending 16-7 run.

Hogan Shaw led a balanced Waverly attack with 14 points and four boards, while Judson had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Daddona scored 10 points, hauled down 13 rebounds, and had three assists and three steals

Davies scored 10 points in the win, while Ben Shaw added seven points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals, and LaForest chipped in with five points and two steals.

Waverly, now 11-6, travels to Horseheads Monday night.

"Our league is very tough, especially on the road," said Judson. "We are getting close to where I thought we would be. We have to continue to stay in the moment and not look too far ahead. 

"We look forward to our next game on Monday and know it won’t be easy against a much improved Horseheads team."
