HORSEHEADS — Waverly dominated through the middle two quarters on its way to a 79-47 win over Horseheads here Monday night in STAC junior varsity boys basketball action.

Axel Murray and Brody Lambert scored four points apiece in the first quarter, and Drew Croft added a 3-pointer, but Horseheads led 15-14 after the opening stanza.

In the second quarter, Lambert scored eight points, including a 3-pointer, while Croft had seven points — a 3-pointer and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line — and Maddex Presher canned a pair of 3-pointers for six points in a 25-15 run that put the Wolverines up 39-30 at the half.

Eighth different Waverly players put their name in the scoring column in the third quarter, including Presher and Croft, who each had five points with a 3-pointer — to fuel a 23-8 blitz that gave the Wolverines a 62-38 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

Cooper Skovira came off the bench to score seven points, including a 3-pointer, to lead Waverly in a 17-9 game-closing run.

Croft had 15 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, six rebounds, four steals, and one blocked shot, while Lambert had 15 points, four rebounds, and six steals, and Presher had 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and two steals to lead the Wolverines.

Murray had eight points, eight boards, three steals, and two blocked shots in the win, while Skovira had seven points, two rebounds and two steals, and Ian Johnston had six points and six rebounds

Fiske had six points, four rebounds, and one blocked shot for the Wolverines, while Cole Hunt pulled down four boards, and Aiden Malarzo grabbed three rebounds.

Waverly 58, Chenango Forks 46

Bryce Fiske sparked a fourth-quarter run that lifted Waverly to a 58-46 win at Chenango Forks Monday.

Axel Murray scored eight points in the first quarter, including a 3-pointer, and Maddex Presher buried a pair of 3-pointers to help the Wolverines to a 16-12 lead.

Drew Croft scored four points in the second quarter, and Fiske and Presher each added 3-pointers as Waverly maintained a four-point advantage, at 29-25, heading into the halftime locker room.

Forks used a 10-6 spurt in the third quarter to tie the game at 35-35 heading into the final eight minutes.

In the fourth quarter, Fisher buried a pair or 3-pointers and scored 10 points, while Brody Lambert scored five points, including a 3-pointer, and Ian Johnston added a trey to fuel a 23-11 blitz that lifted the Wolverines to the win.

Fiske had 15 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, 13 rebounds, and two blocked shots, and Murray had 15 points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots to lead the Wolverines.

Presher had 11 points, including three 3-pointers, four assists, three steals, and one blocked shot in the win, while Croft had seven points, six boards, and three assists, Lambert had seven points and two assists, and Cole Hunt added two rebounds and two assists.

Waverly, now 14-4, returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Owego.
