VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: ATHENS' NASON, RATHBUN, TIOGA'S ALBRECHT NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2026-03-12)

THE VALLEY — Athens seniors Leah Nason and Hanna Rathbun each reached the podium for the first time at the PIAA Girls Wrestling Championships, while Tioga senior Gavin Albrecht just missed a medal at the New York State Indoor Track & Field Championships. They are the VSR / Bishop Brothers Construction "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Feb. 7.

ATHENS' NASON, RATHBUN NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION GIRLS "ATHLETES OF THE WEEK"

Nason posted a 3-2 record to place seventh in the 235-pound bracket in Hershey.

Nason won her opening-round match against Albert Gallatin's Jenna Chapman via a 6-1 decision, then led Dallastown's Melani Knott late before losing by fall at 5:38 in the quarterfinals.

Nason pinned South Western's Taneeka Previl in 2:03 in the blood round, then lost via fall in her next match to fall into the seventh-place match, where she pinned Allen's Karla Montes is 4:46.

Rathbun also posted a 3-2 mark on the weekend to finish seventh in the 130-pound bracket at the PIAA Championships.

After losing via technical fall in the opening round, Rathbun scored a 15-0 technical fall over Northeastern's Chloe Meador, then edged Gettysburg's Myah Coleman, 4-3 in the blood round.

After a loss in the consolation quarterfinals, Rathbun pinned Upper St. Clair's Sydney Laboon in 1:55.

TIOGA'S ALBRECHT NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION BOYS "ATHLETES OF THE WEEK"
Albrecht finished ninth in the pole vault at the State meet at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Complex.

Albrecht, the reigning outdoor Division C state champion, placed ninth, clearing the bar at 14-feet.

The indoor championships is not broken down by school size, so athletes from all school sizes are competing for one gold medal. Albrecht was the top small-school finisher in the field.
