Valley Sports ReportSYRACUSE — Waverly senior Troy Beeman and junior Ben Shaw were named New York State Class B first-team all-stars, while junior Matthias Welles was a second-team selection, and four of their teammates also received recognition recently from the New York State Sportswriters Association.
It's the third year in a row Beeman has been named to the first team, the first two being Class C, and Ben Shaw was second team last year and an honorable mention as a freshman, while senior Hogan Shaw, who was a first-team pick in Class C in each of the last two years, was a third-team pick, and Welles is all-state for the third year in a row after being second- and third-team picks in Class C the last two years.
Junior Carson Rockwell and senior Daltton Davis were each honored for the first time.
FIRST TEAM
Troy Beeman, senior, OL: Beeman, a physical presence with great feet and agility, was the anchor of an offensive line that paced the way for 154.5 rushing yards per game, and 27 rushing TDs against a rugged schedule in 2025. The Wolverines also threw for 121.3 yards per game.
Ben Shaw, junior, LB: Shaw, a sideline-to-sideline defender with a nose for the ball, registered 165 tackles in 11 games, including 75 solo stops. He also had four tackles-for-loss and four QB sacks, as well as one interception, one pass break-up, and one fumble recovery.
SECOND TEAM
Matthias Welles, junior, DL: Wells, who is practically unblockable drew a number of double-teams, had 59 tackles, including 26 solos. He had two QB sacks and two tackles-for-loss, as well as one interception and three forced fumbles.
THIRD TEAM
Hogan Shaw, senior, PK: The strong-legged Shaw converted 35 of 38 extra-point attempts, and booted one field goal on the season. He also had 15 touchbacks on kickoffs,
FIFTH TEAM
Carson Rockwell, junior, OL: A big body with great feet, Rockwell was a big key in Waverly';s offensive success.
Honorable Mention
Daltton Davis, senior, WR: Davis was a deep-ball threat with his speed, but also had no fear catching the ball across the middle. He had 32 grabs for 602 yards and three TDs, including game-winners against M-E and U-E.
