Valley Sports ReportSYRACUSE — Tioga’s Kelsey Helmich made her NYSPHSAA Bowling Championships debut in the Individual Championship Division 2 tournament held at AMF Syracuse Lanes here Saturday.
While her final high school tournament didn’t produce the results she was looking for, she can still walk away knowing she made it deeper into the season than most bowlers did.
Helmich found the competition to be tough and the lanes tougher as she placed 44th in a field of 55 competitors, rolling a six-game total of 882.
She started the tournament with a 134, then followed up with a 147 and 154 for a 435 in her first series. She opened the next series with a 158, followed by a 141 and a 148.
IAC counterparts Calli Marsh from Candor and Rachel Hartman of Newark Valley placed 11th and 19th, respectively. Marsh rolled an 1122 and Hartman shot a 1043.
Emma Pelton of Depew won the individual title with a 1246 series which was highlighted by a 258 high game.
