THE VALLEY — A strong regular season and a fifth-place finish at States makes Waverly senior Derek Johnson the Valley Sports Report All-Valley "Bowler of the Year."
Tioga senior Kelsey Helmich is the "Girls Bowler of the Year."
Johnson opened States with a 672 series, including a 289 in the first game, which was the high game at the New York State Division 2 Individual Championships.
Johnson rolled a 630 series during the afternoon session, closing out with games of 235 and 212, for a six-game set of 1,302.
During the regular season, Johnson had a 212 average with a high series of 722 and a high game of 290.
A state qualifier, Helmich had a 173 average on the season, which was third in the IAC.
She rolled an IAC-best 607 series and had a high game of 231.

Griff Walter, sophomore, Waverly: Walter posted a 201 average on the season, with a high series of 675 and a high game of 268.
Nick Slater, senior, Tioga: Slater had a 199 average on the season, with a 674 high series and a 267 high game.
Maison Apgar, junior, Waverly: Apgar posted a 199 average for the Wolverines, with a 654 high series and a 243 high game.
Rylie Witman, sophomore, Waverly: Witman had a 174 average on the season, with a 607 series and a high game of 231.
