VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: ATHENS' VANDYKE HEADLINES ALL-VALLEY SUPER 7 AS 'BOYS NEWCOMER OF WINTER' (2026-04-08)

THE VALLEY — Freshman Chace VanDyke got better as the year progressed, and narrowly missed a trip to the PIAA, Class 3A Wrestling Championships. He is the 2025-26 Valley Sports Report "Boys Newcomer of the Winter."

VanDyke posted a 21-15 record with six pins and six technical falls in 2025-26.

In one of his best performances of the season, VanDyke placed sixth at the rugged Coal Cracker Invite.

VanDyke finished second at the District 4, Class 3A Championships, and placed sixth at the "meat-grinder" known as the Class 3A Northeast Regional Championships, missing a trip to Hershey by one spot.

Brendan Comstock, senior, Athens wrestling:
Comstock announced his presence with authority, winning his first-ever varsity wrestling match via fall in 10 seconds.

Comstock went on to post a 20-12 record with 11 pins and one technical fall. He finished fourth at the District 4, Class 3A Championships.

Braiden Judson, freshman, Waverly basketball:
Judson started in his first varsity game. He averaged 8.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, including 2.4 offensive boards, 1.2 assists, 1.1 steals per game, and canned 10 3-pointers on the season.

Aiden Briggs, freshman, Athens basketball:
Briggs made an immediate impact for the Wildcats. He averaged 8.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1 steal per game, and knocked down 37 3-pointers on the season.

Jack Pipher, sophomore, Waverly basketball: A dynamic defender, Pipher averaged 7.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.3 steals per game, and knocked down 22 3-pointers on the season. 

Riley Johnson, sophomore, Sayre basketball: Physical and athletic, Johnson appears to have the mindset to become a go-to scorer for the Redskins, to go along with an established ability to get a rebound. (No stats provided.

Ryan Howard, senior, Athens wrestling: Howard posted a 12-18 record with seven falls and one technical fall. He placed fourth at the District 4, Class 3A Championships, and was 0-2 at Regionals.
