NTL BASEBALL: ATHENS SCORES EARLY, OFTEN TO DOWN SAYRE, 17-1 (2026-04-08)

SAYRE — Athens jumped out to a big lead early on the way to a 17-1, five-inning victory over Sayre in NTL baseball action at Riverfront Park here Wednesday

Brendan Cooke belted a pair of two-run doubles in the top of the first.

The initial double plated Zeke Noble and Nick Grazul, who reached on a single and double, respectively. The second came after Duncan Thetga and Noble wrapped walks around Shea Davidson’s RBI single that scored Eli Hobday, and gave the Wildcats an 8-0 cushion.

Brady Flynn closed out the 10-run barrage with a two-run single.

Athens added five more runs in the second on a Kamdyn Wheeler walk, a run-scoring error off the bat of Duncan Thetga, a Davidson single, Noble’s RBI single, Grazul’s two-run single and a Davidson sacrifice fly.

Sayre got on the scoreboard in the home half of the second. Declan Barry was hit by a pitch and scored on Karter Green’s double to right field.

Neither team scored again until Athens plated two more runs in the fifth.

Easton Paul was hit by a pitch and scored on a Thetga ground out. Ty Owen scored after he walked, moved to third on Karson Sipley’s single and went home on a Kade Rowe single.

Cooke was 3-for-3 with two runs and four RBI; Noble went 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI; Davidson was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI; Grazul went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI; and Flynn was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.

Thetga drove in two runs and scored another; Rowe chipped in with a hit and RBI; Owen, Hunter Brennan, Hobday and Paul scored one run apiece, and Sipley tacked on a hit.

Karter Green had a hit and RBI for the Redskins, Barry had a run, and Braydon Northrop, Kiyshon Kole and Tucker Green recorded one hit each.

Theta picked up the win, striking out four while giving up three hits over our innings. Cooke pitched one inning with two strikeouts, one walk and one hit allowed.
