WAVERLY — Waverly improved to 4-0 with a big win over Oneonta Saturday, but Susquehanna Valley ended the Wolverines' win streak with a 12-3 win Monday in STAC junior varsity softball action.
Waverly 22, Oneonta 9
At Oneonta, Waverly rapped out 19 base hits in a 22-9 rout of Oneonta Saturday morning.
Eighth-grader Layla Oechslin and sophomore Addison Temple each stroked three singles and scored three runs, while Bella Root and Harper Hillman each had three hits, including a double, and two runs scored to pace Waverly's attack.
Eighth-grader Kendall North singled twice and scored three runs in the win, while 8th-grader Phoebe Minaker tripled and singled, and scored three runs, 7th-grader Sydney Donovan singled twice and scored one run, 8th-grader Clare Seager singled and scored twice, and freshman Lily Root reached base five times and scored three runs.
North earned the win, striking out six in five innings, and Hillman closed out the game with two innings of no-hit relief, while striking out four.
Susquehanna Valley 12, Waverly 3
At Conklin, Susquehanna Valley handed Waverly its first setback of the season in a 12-3 decision.
Bella Root was tagged with he loss. She allowed two hits in 3 1/3 innings, while striking out 12 and walking 10.
Donovan finished off the game, allowing one hit and one walk in 2 2/3 innings. She fanned three.
Eighth-grader Carson LaFrance doubled and North singled to account for Waverly's two hits, while Donovan walked three times, and Hillman waled twice and scoured one run.
Waverly, now 4-1, returns to action Saturday when it hosts Elmira at 11 a.m.
