OWEGO — Owego Free Academy won the first two singles matches, but Waverly swept the remaining matches, three via forfeits, to post a 5-2 win here Friday afternoon in STAC Central Division boys tennis action.
Owego's Sam Beyer topped Logan Roskow, 6-4 and 6-2, in the first singles match.
River Hawk teammate D.J. Cardone pulled out a three-set win over Nathan Kellogg. Cardone won the first set, and Kellogg the second — both by scores of 6-3. Cardone won the tiebreaker by a score of 10-5.
Waverly's Nathan McEwen topped Scott Riegel in a three-set decisions in the third singles match. McEwen won the first set, 6-4, but Riegel bounced back with a 6-3 win.
In the tiebreaker, Riegel jumped out to an 8-4 lead, but McEwen won six straight points to pull out a 10-8 lead.
In fourth singles, Trent VanDyke scored a 6-1, 6-1, win over Caleb Carvellas.
The River Hawks forfeited all three doubles matches, with the Wolverines duos of Finn Williams and Tammo Bruns, Kamden Sorenson and Alvin Gao, and Owen Fassett and Dakota French picking up the wins.
Waverly, now 4-1, returns to action Tuesday at Windsor.
