Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Seniors Ronin Ault and Daltton Davis combined on a five-hitter to lead unbeaten Waverly to a 5-0 win over Chenango Valley here Tuesday afternoon in STAC Central Division baseball action.
"Ronin (Ault) did a good job tonight holding CV to just three hits with six strikeouts in five innings," said Waverly coach Kyle McDuffee. "Daltton (Davis) came in and did a nice job holding the shut out.
"Our pitching is been real strong in the first seven games this year.
"Jack (Pipher) had a good timely hit with his triple," added McDuffee. "Plus, we did nice job at plate with only one team strikeout."
The Wolverines took an early 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI single by freshman Axel Murray in the bottom of the second inning.
In the home half of the third inning, senior Hogan Shaw led off with a single and stole second. After a walk to sophomore Jack Pipher, Shaw was thrown out trying to steal third.
After Pipher stole second, Ault helped his own cause with an RBI double to make it 2-0.
Junior Matthias Welles was hit by the next pitch to put runners on first and second. With two outs Ault and Welles pulled off a double steal, and a wild throw to third base allowed Ault to score to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the fourth inning, Pipher belted a two-out, two-RBI triple into the gap put the Wolverines up 5-0.
Ault allowed three hits, while striking out six and walking two in five innings, while Davis allowed one hit in two scoreless innings.
Pipher tripled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Ault doubled, scored one run, and knocked in one run to pace Waverly's five-hit attack, while Davis and Hogan Shaw each singled and scored one run, Murray singled and drove in one run, and junior Justin Koenig scored one run.
Davis and Murray each stole two bases and the Wolverines stole nine as a team.
Waverly, now 7-0, returns to action Wednesday at Chenango Valley in the second of their three-game series.
