WAVERLY — Chenango Forks won a tiebreaker in the third set of the third doubles match to pull out a 4-3 win over Waverly here Monday afternoon in STAC Central Division boys tennis action.
Waverly has dropped four of its five last matches, three of them by a score of 4-3. Its lone win in that stretch was a 4-3 decision.
Logan Roskow received a forfeit for the Wolverines in the first singles, but the Blue Devils won the other three singles matches in straight sets.
In the first doubles match, Collin Wheeler and Trent VanDyke rallied for a three-set win over Lucas Taylor and Landon Butenko. After dropping the first set 7-5, the Waverly duo won the next two sets 6-2 and 6-3.
In the second doubles, Tammo Bruns, a German exchange student, and Finn Williams teamed for a 6-4, 6-4 win.
In the third doubles, Kam Sorenson and Alvin Gao dropped the first set 6-2, but won the second set 6-4. The Forks duo of David Hull and Christopher Samson bounced back to clinch the Blue Devil win with a 7-6 win in the third set, via a 7-3 win in the tiebreaker.
Waverly, now 5-5, hosts Owego Free Academy Wednesday.
