GROTON — Josh Rought led the offense and Cam Ross battled through six innings to lead Tioga to an 11-5 win over Groton here Monday afternoon in IAC Small School baseball action.
The Tigers took an early lead with four runs in the top of the second inning.
Ross helped his own cause with a groundball RBI single to knock in the first run, and Jaxon Bidwell drove in two runs with a single to right field to make it 3-0. Tioga tacked on another run later in the inning.
The RedHawks answered with two runs in the bottom of the second inning to close the gap to 4-2.
Tioga led 6-3 after six innings, and put the game away with five runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Max Paugh's RBI triple gave the Tigers a 7-3 lead, and Brendan Clark's RBI single made it 8-3. With two outs, Anthony Powell capped the rally with a two-RBI double to make it 11-3.
Rought singled three times, stole four bases, and scored three runs to pace Tioga's 13-hit attack, while Cooper Dember doubled twice and scored two runs, Clark singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run, and Jacob Guiles singled twice and scored one run.
Paugh tripled, scored two runs, and drove in one run in the win, while Powell doubled and had two RBI, Ross singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, Bidwell singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Casey Stoughton had one RBI.
Ross earned the win, allowing three runs on 11 hits, while striking out 13 and walking none in six innings.
Tioga, now 4-4, returns to action Tuesday at Newfield.
