THE SPORTS REPORTS: HORSEHEADS' BOWMAN, CORNING'S DOWNING ZIFF LAW FIRM 'BOWLERS OF YEAR;' VALLEY WELL-REPRESENTED ON ALL-REGION TEAMS (2026-04-29)

The Sports Reports
Horseheads sophomore Cayden Bowman saved his best for last, and won a state title, while Corning senior Kylie Downing placed fifth at States. They are The Sports Reports / Ziff Law Firm All-Region "Bowlers of the Year."

Bowman, carried a 203 average during the regular season, which was 10th-highest in the region, but at States rolled a season-high 737 series as part of a six-game set of 1,438 (239.67), which was good for Division I Individual Championships gold. His high game at States was a 255, and all six games were 224 or better.

He beat the Division I runner-up by 72 pins, and was 57 pins better than the Division 2 champ.

He had a 714 high series during regular season and a 267 high game.

Downing had a region-best 201 average during the regular season, with a high series of 738, and a high game of 278.

She finished fifth at the Division I Individual State Championships with a six-game set of 1,213 (202.1 average).

Alex Gublo, Elmira: Gublo had a region-high 223 average on the season. His high series was 737 with a high game of 279. He finished 11th at the Division I Individual State Championships.

Evan O'Hara, Owego: O'Hara had a 222 average with a 764 high series, and a 278 high game. He placed in the top 15 at the Division 2 Individual State Championships.

Bentley Goodier, Corning: goodies had a 215 season average with a 768 high series, and a region-best high game of 299. He finished 13th at the Division I Individual State Championships.

Connor Kotski, Owego:
Kotski had a 214 average for the season, with a 719 series and a 278 high game. He placed sixth at the Division 2 Individual State Championships.

Logan Card, Elmira: Card had a 213 season average, with a 755 high series and a 279 high game. He was a Division I state qualifier.

Derek Johnson, Waverly: Johnson carried a 212 average, with a 722 high series, and a 290 high game. He finished fifth at the Division 2 Individual State Championships. He placed sixth at the Division 2 Individual State Championships.

Noah Cady, Horseheads:
Cady had a 213 season average, with a 746 high series and a 279 high game.

Frankie D'Angelo, Elmira: D'Angelo had a 206 average on the season, with a high series of 747, and a high game of 257. He finished 32nd at the Division I Individual State Championships.

Colten Santalucia, Waverly: Santalucia carried a 204 average this season, with a 735 high series, and a high game of 269.

Griff Walter, Waverly:
Walter posted a 201 average this season, with a high series of 675 and a high game of 268.

Mike Aponte, Corning: Aponte had a 200 average this season, with a 663 high series, and a high game of 259. He finished 38th at the Division I Team State Championships.

Nick Slater, Tioga: Slater had a 199 average with a 674 high series, and a high game of 267.

Jackson Dunning, Corning: Dunning posted a 199 average this season, with a high series of 728, and a high game of 268.

Maison Apgar, Waverly: Apgar had a 199 average, with a high series of 654, and a 243 high game.

Madison Smith, Elmira: Smith carried a 200 average with a high series of 682 series, and a high game of 257. She finished third as an individual at the N.Y. State  Division 1 Team Championships.

Madisyn Wasicki, Elmira: Wasicki had a 197 average this season, and rolled a region-high 761 series, with a high game of 279. She finished 16th as an individual at the N.Y. State Team Championships. She was a state qualifier at the  Division 1 team championships.

Abby Hink, Elmira: Hank posted a 190 average, with a 633 series, and a 245 high game. She finished 23rd as an individual at the N.Y. State Division 1 Team Championships.

Rachel Hartman, Newark Valley: Hartman had a 179 average, with a high series of 565, and a high game of 238. She finished in the top-20 at the Division 2 Individual Championships.

Callie Marsh, Candor: Marsh had a 178 average this season, with a 596 high series and a high game of 220. She finished 11th at the Division 2 Individual Championships.

Rylie Witman, Waverly: Witman carried a 174 average this season, with a 597 average and a high game of 222.

Kelsey Helmich, Tioga:
Helmich had a 173 average, with an IAC-best 607 high series and a high game of 231. She was a state qualifier at the Division 2 Individual Championships.

Ariel Houseknecht, Waverly: Houseknecht posted a 172 average this season, with a 598 high series, and a high game of 225.

Karis Hayes, Waverly: Hayes had a 171 average, with a high series of 625, and a high game of 222.

Izzy Stanley, Elmira: Stanley had a 163 average this season, with a high series of 569 series, and a high game of 221. She was a state qualifier at the  Division 1 state team championships.

Ayden Hartford, Corning: Hartford posted a 160 average this season, with a 563 high series and a 209 high game.
