ATHENS — Athens senior Brenden Comstock will look to help shore up the Shippensburg University defensive line.
A two-way lineman for the Wildcats, Comstock recently signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the Raiders.
“I chose the school because they have a very nice facility and they have a championship family. That's what they call it, and that's what I want to join,” he said.
Selected to the 2025 Valley Sports Report All-Valley Football Team at both offensive and defensive lineman, he was named the "Defensive Player of the Year."
Comstock was a strong presence on the defensive line at Athens this past fall, recording 89 tackles, including 44 solo stops, 14 tackles-for-loss and four sacks. He also forced three fumbles and broke up three passes.
He feels his persistence will be a plus at the “Ship,” where he will play defensive tackle.
“I don't quit,” he said. “I'm going to give them everything I have, get the work done as much as I can,” Comstock said.
He also believes his skill set will be a plus.
“I'd say my strengths are equipping them with my skills, setting the bar high as a newcomer, giving the upperclassmen a challenge,” he said.
He’s ready to tweak his game so that his abilities better benefit the Raiders’ defense.
“I'd say focusing on my skill as a player, getting off the ball better, stuff like that, little things,” he said.
Shippensburg, which has four upperclassmen on its spring roster defensive line, went 3-8 overall last season and was 3-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, finding fifth in the eight-team East Division.
