WAVERLY — Reigning District 4, Class 4A champion Montoursville traveled North of the Border and handed Waverly its first loss of the season in convincing fashion, 13-1, here Saturday in non-league baseball action.
Montoursville, a state runner-up in 2025 that returned six starters, jumped ahead immediately with three runs in the top of the first inning.
Junior Matthias Welles slammed a two-out home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to close the gap to 5-1.
The Warriors extended its lead to 8-1 after six innings, then poured five more runs across the plate in the top of the seventh inning.
Senior Daltton Davis stroked a pair of singles, Welles hit a solo home run, and sophomore Jack Pipher added a single to account for Waverly's four hits.
Waverly, now 10-1, begins a three-game series Monday at Owego Free Academy.
