MILTON — Athens poured 12 runs across the plate in the top of the first inning in a 17-1 three-inning win over Milton here Monday afternoon in non-league baseball action.
Junior Duncan Thetga knocked in the first two runs of the game with a single, and junior Connor Davidson followed with a two-run double to right field make it 4-0.
After a wild pitch made it 5-0, senior Eli Hobday stroked an RBI single to right field, and junior Alex McQuay lined an RBI double into the gap to make it 7-0.
Moments later, junior Brendan Cooke drove the first pitch he saw over the center-field fence to extend the lead to 10-0.
Senior Nick Grazul re-ignited the rally with a single, and with two outs, freshman Zeke Noble flared a two-run single into short left field to cap the rally.
Athens added a run in the top of the second, and scored four more to extend its lead to 17-0 after 2 1/2 innings.
Grazul was 3-for-3 with a double, and one run scored to pace Athens' 11-hit attack.
Cooke homered, scored two runs, and had three RBI, and senior Karson Sipley also belted a three-run home run in the win, while Davidson and McQuay doubled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and Noble singled, scored two runs, and knocked in two runs.
Thetga singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs for the Wildcats, while Hobday and junior Brady Flynn singled, scored two runs, and knocked in one run, and junior Kam Wheeler scored a pair of runs.
Flynn was the beneficiary of the offensive onslaught, picking up the win on the mound. He allowed one run on three hits, while striking out two and walking two in three innings of work.
Athens, now 14-2, hosts Canton Thursday.
