COLLEGE SOFTBALL: WAVERLY GRAD ESAU HOMERS IN FINAL GAME TO WRAP UP STRONG FRESHMAN SEASON (2026-05-07)

DRYDEN — Waverly grad Makayla Esau, a freshman on the Tompkins-Cortland Community College softball team, belted her first collegiate home run in the season finale Friday to wrap up a strong initial season with the Panthers.

TCCC won the opening game of a doubleheader at Finger Lakes CC, 6-5, then dropped the second game, 10-9.

In the opener, Esau doubled and singled in three at-bats, with a double, one run scored, and two RBI.

In the nightcap, Esau was 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI.

On the season, Esau hit .342 (25 hits in 73 at-bats) in 22 games, with six doubles, one triple, one home run, a team-high 20 RBI, 10 runs scored, and three RBI.

She had eight multi-hit games, finished the season on a six-game hitting streak, and was second on the team in batting average and base hits.

Esau did not have an error in the last 17 games of the season, and finished with 35 putouts and one outfield assist.

Esau was also the team's All-Conference team nominee.

TCCC wrapped up the season with a 5-17 record.
